Ethan Jackson went the distance, allowing only three hits to give Colts Neck a 7-4 victory over A-North rival Middletown South.
The Eagles scored three runs in the third inning to jump out to an early lead. The three runs were unearned because of consecutive infield errors.
The Cougars came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to bring the score within one. The Eagles scored Jackson’s only earned run of the contest in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage.
Colts Neck scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead off of starter Pat Magnotta, who went six, and allowed five earned on eight hits.
Jackson closed off his masterful performance by shutting down the Eagles in the 7th to give the Cougars their 12th win, helping their position in the A-North Division race.
A.J. Rusbarskey and Pat Specchio led the Colts Neck offense with two and three hits, respectively, in three at bats a piece.
Junior Varsity
The JV Eagles came back from behind to win their 10th game this season 7-6. After trailing 5-1, South put up a run to cut the lead to three in the fourth. With one out in the 5th Jim Geant, Chris Bunge, Jon Altino and Mark Spoleti hit four singles in a row to score two. Kenny Paterson had an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 6-5. Tyler Cottrell walked and then Kevin Slavin hit a two run triple, scoring Spoleti and pinch runner David George. Tim Ens allowed only one run in relief of starter Ryan Johnston, and got the win.
