THIRD TIME'S A CHARM FOR ANTONUCCI, EAGLES

After two unsuccessful attempts at securing head coach Steve Antonucci’s 100th career win, the Eagles fought off a tough Freehold Township team to win 21-14. Antonucci becomes the fastest coach in the Shore Conference to reach 100 career victories.

Senior quarterback Ryan Mullan led the Eagles, running for two touchdowns, including the game-winner from a yard out with a little over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

South got on the board early when senior running back Chris Bunge scampered for a 48 yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Township was able to battle back from a 14-0 deficit with help from a 60 yard touchdown run from senior Jonathan Bennett. The Patriots were later able to tie the game on a touchdown run from inside the five-yard line, which was set up by a pass interference penalty in the end zone.

Freehold had one final chance with less than two minutes in the fourth quarter, but junior safety Brian Benedetto intercepted a pass by junior quarterback Cameron Beatty.

The Eagles even their record at 1-1 while the Patriots fall to 1-1 on the year. The Eagles will face Jackson Liberty on September 26, at the Swamp.
