WASKI, ALTINO LEAD EAGLES OVER VIKINGS

Senior righty Tom Waski pitched a complete game while senior Jon Altino sparked the offense from the leadoff spot in a non-conference matchup to give the Eagles a 9-1 win over the South Brunswick Vikings.

South jumped ahead in the bottom of the second inning with a seven-run second inning.

Senior Miles Santo started off with a single, who then scored on an error on a fly ball by junior Tyler Cotterell. Then senior Eric Dunn and sophomore Scott Bruno both singled to set up a two-run double by Altino.

Altino eventually scored on an error on a pickoff throw, and the inning was capped off by a run-scoring triple by sophomore Craig Sweeney and an RBI double by Santo.

Waski was able to hold that lead by working his way out of several jams. He stranded three runners on base in the third inning after loading the bases with one out. In the fourth, he allowed two runners to reach before getting an out, but wiggled out of that situation without giving up a run.

Three consecutive singles in the sixth, by Altino, junior Kevin Slavin, and senior Jack Provine, followed by a sacrifice fly by Sweeney brought in another Eagles run. Provine later scored on a wild pitch.

Waski scattered 8 hits over seven innings and allowed only one run, on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. Altino finished 2-4 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Sweeney finished 2-4 with 2 RBI’s, while Santo went 3-4.
