Senior Matt Martino ran for a touchdown and brought home a score on an athletic interception return for a touchdown to help the Eagles to a 28-0 shutout over Neptune.
After controlling the ball for almost eight minutes on a drive that ended with an 8-yard run by Martino, senior Chris Bunge gave the Eagles offense the ball right back with an interception.
South dominated time of possession and their defense responded by holding the Scarlet Fliers to 58 yards. The defense put up 14 points of its own with Martino's interception return and a fumble return by junior Nick Bricker in the closing minute of the first half.
Neptune's star running back Michael Peavy was stopped cold, totaling only 32 yards on the game.
Bunge finished out the scoring on a misdirection pitch play from the five-yard line to make it 28-0.
The Eagles came into tonight's game fourth in the Central Jersey Group III Power Rankings with 34 points. The win over Neptune will certainly help their playoff position as they look to return to the championship game.
Also, as you may know Digital Sports-Shore Conference no longer exists, and Scott Stump and Co. have moved to All-Shore Media.com. Look for stories on Middletown South and the rest of the Shore Conference there.
